09.27.07 Cedar Grove Cemetery | Boston Township, OH
Probably the most creepy gravestone in the cemetery.
I stumbled across Cedar Grove Cemetery while on my way to photograph the Mother of Sorrows Church and the Mater Dolorosa cemetery (both linked together with satanic history). They are all within a couple miles of one another in Peninsula, OH.
Cedar Grove Cemetery was founded in 1836, but the earliest known burial dates from 1824. It has a large collection of unique, illegible and damaged gravestones. Whether or not they have been damaged by weather or people, I have no idea, but I am sure both play a part.
The original plot of ground was sold in 1836 for just a dollar to trustees who would further develop the cemetery. The large Boston Township Soldiers' Monument, which was donated in 1889 was moved from the inner city to the graveyard in 1932. It lists the names of 141 local men who served in the Civil War.
