The most popular sculpture in Lake View Cemetery, and arguably one of the top in the state of Ohio, is the Haserot Angel. People come on a daily basis to see it, many snapping picture after picture. The angel is holding an upside down torch, symbolizing a life extinguished. Over the years, the bronze skin has wore down, causing the face to appear to be crying.
The statue was sculpted in 1924 by Herman Matzen and stands atop the grave of Francis Haserot and his family. The Haserots had a canned food business, Northern Haserot, that was founded in 1892. They shipped food to Cleveland, Akron, Canton, Youngstown, Toledo, and Columbus.
